    I have what I call several 'Song Cycles'. They were periods where I did a lot of writing. One was 'The Displaced Years' (AKA 'Songs From Love Crescent'), a whole group of songs written during the period between the break-up of our band Christmas and my arrival in Hamilton, Ontario to manage Star Records. Another more recent song cycle is 'October Songs' - a batch which were written after the release of 'Polaroid Verite'. In between there was 'Songs From James Street', from a very prolific period where I lived on that street in Hamilton, Ontario. This album constitutes most of the yet unreleased songs in demo form from that cycle and period - some recorded later in studio and others recorded 'raw' on a ghetto blaster.

From 1983 to 1987 I lived above a store on James Street North in Hamilton, Ontario. It was a wild time in a wild neighbourhood. There was a lot of crime and the nights were filled with questionable activity right outside my window. The surroundings were pretty intense but it was a prolific time for my songwriting. I wrote songs for Benzene Jag, Age of Mirrors, a lot of the gospel numbers plus many other tunes which would eventually appear on my solo albums. The collection here represents demos of songs from that cycle which never (as of yet) made it on to 'official' releases. Most are recorded 'live to ghetto blaster' and are included strictly for archival purposes.
