about

A song written by Bob when he lived alone on Markland Street in Hamilton, Ontario in the early 1980's. Phases of life-wise, it was sandwiched right between two of Bob's big song cycles, 'The Displaced Years' and 'Songs From James Street'. The song was even part of Benzene Jag's repertoire at one point. It was inspired by a trip Bob made with his unofficial step-daughter to Vancouver Island in the late 1970's.

lyrics

Eternity Skies (Bryden)

Well here you are
Looking on while others look away
With a heart so open
Breaking like the start of a brand new day
There where we stand
Where the sea meets the sand
My heart in your heart
and my hand in your hand
I see in your eyes eternity, eternity skies

With a heart so open
Laughing as the waves come rushing in
Our hearts become one
Long have we been waiting to begin
Here where we stand
Where the sea meets the sand
With my heart in my heart
and your hand in my hand
I see in your eyes eternity, eternity skies

Nothing dies, it never does
Life goes on forevermore
What is this magic that keeps me in tune?
The only answer is - because
No point to endeavour more
What is so tragic about realms in ruin?
Beyond this skin, beyond this sky
Something taunts us heavenward
What is the lesson we have not yet learned?
So let’s begin and don’t ask why
A heart will break when hope’s deferred
What is the true cost when love’s gift is spurned
The ocean will take us again.
